I think Midlake is better known for their more recent album, but I like this one more.
The lead singer of Midlake sometimes sounds a lot like Thom Yorke.
Yes, actually...
I made a mix CD for Serious Eats last Friday. Now I will slowly upload the songs! Yay!
Unfortunately, I haven't seen Band of Horses live, even though I've had a few opportunities. None of my friends are very into them. :(
"Um, what if I don't like it..."
"You'll like it."
It was weird for various reasons, one thing being that our musical tastes only crossed half of the time, two being that we had just suffered a conflict in our friendship and were transitioning back by acting like nothing had ever happened. I thought, "Oh god, I better like it." Popped it in, was a bit "eh" at first. Listened to it some more and was ridiculously hooked. I like his new album even more.
He's amazing live. Go see him if you get the chance!
More mp3s laterrz.
I might not graduate on time.
...[sigh]
I got a notice from the registrar saying I had four missing credits. Huh? Nah. What's up with that? So I printed out a Program of Study form, checked off the courses I've taken, and had some trouble at the bottom part, "Electives by Advisement". I checked off a few and added some courses that weren't listed there. And then...I found out where the missing credits were.
...
Okay, I am not blameless, but when you ask your adviser, "Hey, can you tell me what classes I have to take?" and he tells you "Yup, these two!" and leaves out a few (like the four credits) and then you tell him your schedule to check and he approves its OK-ness so you punch it into the registration thing and you are all registered and ready to go, at some point the adviser could've noticed that "Wait, you have to take more food electives!" Like....just....at any point...[rubs nose]...
Maybe I should stop trusting people.
I don't see any way around this unless I can pull 4 credits of independent study out of my butt. This is very bad, folks. I am pretty sick of school. And I definitely could've gotten these four credits done if I realized earlier "HEY I HAVE FOUR MORE CREDITS TO TAKE." Otherwise I have taken 129 credits, not so bad considering how Vassar credits translated to seemingly nothing in NYU credits.
Man man man man muh.
Jesus christ, I placed that amazon.com order too quickly.
The Innocence Mission is one of my favorite bands, so it's rather sad that I didn't know that they released a new album LAST WEEK. I'm not keeping up with the times! OH MY GAWD. I don't need to hear it to know that I'll like it, but I took a listen on their myspace page anyway and now I really want it. Karen Peris's voice almost makes me cry. It's weird. It's just her voice and Even Johansen's voice that I love that much, where anything they sing sounds like a fluffy cloud of sleepy happiness. To me, I mean.
I freak out about the silliest things. Now to get this album...if only I could qualify for free shipping on Amazon...wait a minute, I can buy:
Jebus, this book costs $28. Not that I haven't spend more than that on books. Um. It's less on buy.com. Maybe I shouldn't buy a book about bread. But wait, I'D LOVE THIS BOOK!
...I think this is why people go to libraries.
Is it weird that I'd rather have a book about the history of bread than how to make it? I keep failing at the baking thing. Okay, semi-failing. Stuff is edible, it's just not uber delicious.
I don't usually buy many CDs (I think I've purchased...one this year so far), but I just bought four:
I bought the Air album having heard only one of the new songs. I assume it'll grow on me if I've bought all their other major albums so far. Er. Yes.
I loves me some Andrew Bird. A friend bought me one of his albums, insisting that I would love him. And I do. The new album is byoootiful.
Yesterday I bought prints off flickr so that I could look at photos on my wall as opposed to on my computer. And then I bought stuff from Photojojo so I could hang up the photos on my wall without destroying them.
OH GOD I HAVE TO STOP BUYING STUFF. I suppose the best way to save my money would be to stop eating out so much. [blink]
You know how some people love to cook pasta for a quick meal? Or...something? I realized that buckwheat soba and soba sauce is my quick meal. Sooo good. Why doesn't pasta and tomato sauce have the same appeal for me? I ate a lot more of that growing up than soba. Damn, I love soba.
Parisian macarons, those are not. I'm very tempted to contact a guy at Pierre Herme and ask if there's any chance in hell he will open a location in NYC, or anywhere in the US. Then again, keeping them in Paris would make Paris more appealing to visit...
What was your favorite game to play at recess in grade school?
Submitted by Elisheva Chana.
...Whoa whoa, this implies that I actually enjoyed recess or something. Wuuut?
Recess sucked! My friends and I would've rather gone to the library or just stayed inside instead of being forced to go outside and walk around aimlessly or ...whatever it is that kids did. I don't remember. [scratches head]
For a while everyone played Skip-It. Remember that? I used to really want one of those, but I suppose it's a good thing my parents never got me one cos I probably would've gotten bored of it really quickly.
Jump ropes were kinda fun.
...
Man, physical activity just isn't my thing.
Oh, but I did play basketball in 7th grade. Most of my friends were on the team. We were horrible beyond reason, but we weren't trying to win or apparently have any technique. We kinda just cheered on each other and sucked a lot. I swear it was fun.
In conclusion, recess sucked.

I like this song. You should too. Now all I gotta do is BUY TICKETS TO SEE ANDREW BIRD AT [buuuh] WEBSTER HALL [actually, I don't have anything against Webster Hall; I just like Bowery Ballroom the most]. I'm not lazy enough to buy them online...because I'm too cheap to pay for the extra fee when I could just go to the Mercury Lounge and buy them. Ye know, just hop on down. Hoppity bop. If I weren't so lazy.
Part of my laziness can be attributed to that I've only kinda found someone else to go with. I'm not in love enough with Andrew Bird to see him myself. The number of concerts I've gone to alone is quite weeny. Four times, I think?
I'm supposed to be studying. Oops.
What's your favorite blend or brand of coffee or tea?
They both taste like DIRTY WATERRRRRRRRRRRR
I like milkshakes.
Who or what do you really love?
Sleep. I love sleep.
I also love when I manage to not think about the things that disturb/depress me. I got a 3-hour window of that tonight when I went out to eat with some new friends. It was so great! Until I was waiting for the subway and remembered all the shitty stuff again! Hehe!
Also, I ate so much that I almost threw up. That actually doesn't happen as often as you may think. But my friend treated the rest of us to dinner, which was sweet and probably caused me to eat a dessert when I would've otherwise gone without it.
Sleep is the only thing I really love. And my mom. ...Yes.
What did you dream about last night?
Last night was so long ago! I DUNNO!
"Look, it's Princess Bubblegum's rainacorn!"
"PENGUINS!"
"RHOMBUS!"
"My hat is AWESOME!"
"Are you kidding? I play the viola too!"
It doesn't matter that I took the phrases out of context...because they don't make much sense IN context either.
If I could make an animation like that in my lifetime, I'd be quite satisfied with myself.
